04/2011: The Foundation held events at Moreland’s Sydney Road Street Party and the Darebin Community and Kite Festival to meet and greet local residents. Focusing on the great projects that were funded in the 2010 grants round, the Foundation manned stalls at events in both Darebin and Moreland to introduce local residents to our Foundation and our work. The Darebin event was a day held at Edwarde’s Lake Park in Reservoir. Our Foundation entertained local children with a fun fact-fishing game while we presented teens and adults with gift cards and bookmarks. We had more than 75 people stop at our stall and engage in the activities despite the day threatening to leave us all drenched. People took away information about our Darebin project, the Koorie Night Markets, and what it has meant for those who participated in the project. The Moreland event was held on Sydney Road as a part of the Brunswick Music Festival. We had a stall situated in the community sector outside town hall, a prime location. Being co-located and working with CERES Environment Park allowed us to showcase how the Foundation’s funding has worked. Two of the participants from the Seven Stars Food Project worked at the stall on the day as part of their training and also demonstrated the outcome of a Foundation funded project to people who stopped at our stall. The free samples of food prepared by the two Seven Stars women brought flocks of people to our stall. There was too many to count, but at least over 150 people enjoyed the food left knowing a little more about our Foundation. |
